My first featured book is Defending Jacob By William Landay
An Apple TV mini series
Defending Jacob is a New York Times Best Seller and is Currently streaming on AppleTv featuring Chris Evans as Andy Barber and a stellar cast including Michelle Dockery, Jaeden Martell and Pablo Schreiber.
This book is a legal thriller with the central question How far will you go? The book follows the Barber family through their sons legal battle, when he is accused of a classmates murder. what makes matters worse is Andy Barber is the towns assistant District attorney whose life is turned upside town when his son is named a suspect in the murder of a local teenager. This book asks the reader may important questions, Most importantly how far would you go to protect the ones you love? Can violence be passed down? Are we destined to repeat the past? This book delves into the "murder gene" Do killers have a genetic predisposition to kill?
What stands out for me about this book is the way Landay ends the book. There is a twist that I didn't see coming that made me rethink the whole novel. I thought it was really clever of the author. It also makes you rethink the central question of the novel How far would you go? I also loved the courthouse dialogue that makes the reader feel that they are in the courtroom with the characters.
One of my favorite things to do is to compare books to their film or TV counterparts.
Defending Jacob on Apple TV stays remarkably close to the book. The changes that they did make enhance the story. I also think that casting was done remarkably well. Chris Evans really brings Andy Barber to life and the rest of the cast bring their A game as well.
I recommend checking out along with the book. Defending Jacob is currently streaming episodes 1-4 with a new release every Friday for and 8 episode season.
